Naeem Mian

2002

Naeem practices primarily in criminal law and has proven to be a popular choice of counsel amongst both solicitors and lay clients. Recognised for his skilful and robust advocacy, Naeem has rapidly built both a reputation and successful defence practice since coming to the Bar. Whether as junior counsel being led or instructed alone he is usually briefed in cases that are often seen as the preserve of counsel with greater seniority. Naeem is regularly instructed to act for defendants charged with the most serious of offences including Terrorist Act offences, multi defendant murder and large scale multi-defendant drug and fraud cases.

In 2009, he secured the acquittal of Mr Saleem in the case of R v Ali, Saleem & Shakil in which the defendants were jointly charged with Conspiracy to Cause Explosions With Intent To Endanger Life (the 7/7 bombings of the London transport system which resulted in the deaths of 52 people - Operation Theseus).

Naeem is currently acting for a number of individuals who have not been charged with any offence but whom the Home Secretary considers to have been involved in terrorism or terrorism related activities and are therefore subject to Control Orders under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005.

As well as being instructed in the Inquests into the deaths arising out of the 7th July 2005 London bombings, Naeem has also been instructed on behalf of one of the twenty teenagers charged with murder arising out of an incident at Victoria Station during rush hour. This case is due to be tried next year.
