- Chris Williams Represents the Family of a Remand Prisoner Who Was Unlawfully Killed
A Leeds Inquest Jury found that a remand prisoner had been unlawfully killed.The inquest into the death, in 2006, of Michael Clegg lasted 5 weeks. The jury’s verdict was highly critical of cell sharing risk assessments at HMP Leeds identifying some 30 systemic failures.

- First Trial Without Jury Begins
The unprecedented trial of four alleged armed robbers without a jury has begun. The Court of Appeal ruled last year that the case should be heard by a judge alone because of the danger of jury tampering. It is the first major criminal trial in England and Wales to be held without a jury, and is taking place at the Royal Courts of Justice

- Mother Charged with Murdering Baby Cleared
A young mother accused of murdering her baby has been dramatically cleared.
In 2008, Saleha Khatun was charged with killing her 10-month-old son Mohammed, who died from a head injury. The murder charges were dropped when prosecutors admitted they had no evidence. The Judge said he now wants to look at other similar cases.

Paul Troop has been admitted to the list of counsel eligible to represent accused before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, based in the Hague. His appointment increases the number of Tooks counsel eligible to represent defendants and victims before the international criminal tribunals.

The Employment Appeal Tribunal in Tariq v Home Office has decided that the right to a fair trial requires that in national security proceedings the government provide the Claimant with sufficient detail of the allegations against him so that they can be challenged effectively.

- Criminal Cases Review Commission Refer Simon Hall's Case to the Court of Appeal
Simon Hall was jailed for life in 2003 for murdering 79 year old Joan Albert in the hallway of her home. He has been granted a new appeal after doubts were raised over key scientific evidence.

Augustin Ngirabatware, who is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, was arrested in Germany and extradited to stand trial before the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda ("ICTR") in Arusha, Tanzania.
