UN Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia Appeals Tribunal Orders Retrial

 

The UNICTY Appeals Tribunal today ordered the retrial of the three co-defendants in the case of Prosecutor v Haradinaj et al.

Ramush Haradinaj, the former Prime Minister of Kosovo, was ordered to be remanded in UN custody pending retrial together with Lahi Brahimaj and Idriz Balaj. Haradinaj and Balaj were originally acquitted of all 35 counts on the indictment by the trial chamber and Brahimaj was convicted of 2 counts of torture and sentenced to 6 years' imprisonment. The ICTY also rejected an appeal by Brahimaj.

Paul Troop is co-counsel for Brahimaj.
