Against tough competition Adam Straw won the award for Young Barrister of the Year whilst Michael Mansfield QC was honoured with the award for Outstanding Achievement. The Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year (LALY) Awards, a unique celebration of the invaluable work done by solicitors, barristers, legal executives and others working in the publicly funded sector, were presented at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre last night. The judging panel included Cherie Booth QC (who presented the awards); Doreen Lawrence of the Stephen Lawrence Trust; legal journalist Joshua Rozenberg, Mr Justice McFarlane from the Family Division; LAPG chair Roy Morgan; as well as other leading practitioners.
