Michel Massih QC secures the acquittal of his client in ‘honour-killing’ case |
|
The jury cleared Cuma Goren the uncle of Tulay Goren of her murder. He was also cleared by the jury of the conspiracy to murder the lover of Tulay Goren. The jury cleared Cuma Goren (represented by Michel Massih QC) the uncle of Tulay Goren of her murder. He was also cleared by the jury of the conspiracy to murder the lover of Tulay Goren. The Crown's case had been that Tulay's father Mehmet together with his brothers Ali and Cuma had killed Tulay because she had breached ‘the honour-code'. In addition it was said that they had plotted to kill Tulay's ‘boyfriend' for the same reason. However, the jury must have accepted Michel's final submissions that if the daughter had been killed by her father, then on the evidence her father must have killed his daughter not as a result of the honour-code but because he had in effect ‘lost control' during an attempt to punish his daughter.
