Led from the front by Michael Mansfield QC, barristers at Tooks have played a leading role in many of the major miscarriage of justice cases (Birmingham Six, Tottenham Three etc) that led to the creation of the Criminal Cases Review Commission. Today Tooks' reputation for fearless expertise in all aspects of criminal law has been equalled by its strong and diverse civil team, members of which have been instrumental in the development of for example prison law R (Walker) v Secretary of State [2008] EWCA Civ 30, administrative law AM (Cameroon) [2008] EWCA Civ, discrimination law Reaney v Diocese of Hereford July 2007, national security Ceri Bullivant, public inquiries the Marchioness Disaster, Stephen Lawrence, Victoria Climbie, Bloody Sunday, the Lockerbie/Omagh/Dublin Monaghan bombings, and the inquests of Princess Diana and Jean Charles De Menezes. Our barristers provide representation across the whole of the UK, the European courts and International courts in civil and criminal matters including actions against the police and public authorities, inquests and prison cases and have pioneered the use of judicial review in civil and criminal matters, whether against central government or local authorities. Most members of Chambers have developed expertise in a number of related areas, providing specialist advice and representation in complex 'crossover' cases.
